Hi, I'm Shelli Spotts. Here's a little bit about me:
or email me at spottsanddots at gmail.com.
- I'm a writing instructor in the English, Dance, and University Writing Departments at Brigham Young University, where I earned an MFA in creative nonfiction.
- I am passionate about poetry and the personal essay— my writing frequently focuses on how we create the stories of ourselves, build bridges with the communities around us, and craft the stories of our lives through lived experience.
- I'm a Broadway nerd! Favorites musicals include Thoroughly Modern Millie, Catch Me If You Can, and Wonderland.
- Stargazer. Frequently found dragging my 4 children and husband outside to "look at the sky!"
- Ravenclaw. ENFJ. Dragonwhisperer.
- I stitch for the local community theater, and create costumes for comic con in my spare time. (Spare time? What is that?)
- I teach first-year writing and rhetoric, advanced writing, dance writing (yay!), and creative writing.
- Favorite Punctuation Mark—the Em Dash! (closely followed by overuse of exclamation marks)
- Research interests: experiential learning, embodied rhetoric (Let's Dance!), visual rhetoric, composition pedagogy, and history/theory of the essay.
