Writing and Rhetoric; Writing 150
This first year composition course reflects my teaching philosophy through carefully crafted assignments and course objectives that focus on driving learning beyond basic course requirements. By instilling curiosity, facilitating collaboration, and encouraging personal interest in writing as a worthwhile tool students become more engaged in the composition process, and learn to transfer their knowledge beyond the limits of the classroom. I strive to create opportunities for personal investment and increased motivation for my students by encouraging them to select their own topics for papers and find opportunities for publication. I also implement frequent, collaborative opportunities in class, including peer reviews, teacher conferencing, and group projects, emphasizing learning through communication. As we have discussions on rhetoric, the power of words, and current issues, students are shown how well-crafted words can have influence beyond the classroom.
